The first batch of electric cars manufactured by Tata Motors has been delivered to state-run Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) as part of their initiative to procure 10,000 electric vehicles by Government of India. Tata Motors had placed an aggressive bid and was qualified as L1 bidder in the midst of stiff competition and won the tender floated by EESL in September 2017. For phase 1, Tata Motors is required to deliver 250 Tigor EVs by December 30, 2017, for which it has received a LoA. About 30% of those 10,000 cars will be supplied by Mahindra in the form of its Mahindra e-Verito which started delivery about a month back.

Tata Tigor electric vehicle is a full electric, zero emission 'sub-compact sedan'. The electric Tigor being supplied to EESL order, will be delivered in three trim variants - Base, Premium and High and will be available in 'Pearlescent White' colour with blue decals.

Over the basic requirements of the tender, the Tigor EV, across the variants, would have Fully Automatic AC (FATC). The electric drive systems for the Tigor EV is developed and supplied by Electra EV - a company established to develop and supply electric drive systems for the automotive sector and is equipped with single-speed automatic transmission. The car is expected to have a range of 140 kilomerters per charge.

Tata Tigor Electric Vehicle is being manufactured at the company?s plant in Sanand and the first ever electric car by Tata Motors in India was rolled out by Ratan Tata and N Chandrasekaran earlier this month.
In the EESL tender, Tata Motors quoted the lowest price of Rs 10.16 lakh exclusive of GST in the competitive bidding. The electric car will be provided to EESL for Rs 11.2 lakh which will be inclusive of GST and comprehensive 5-year warranty, which is 25% below the current retail price of a similar e-car with 3-year warranty.
Tata Motors is the second auto-maker in India to start the manufacturing of electric cars and going forward the company will also bid for all future government?s tender. Tata Motors has not shared any details on when will the Tigor electric car go on sale in India.
